Centenary Celebrations

On Tuesday 15th September members of the Defence Forces presented the Irish Tricolour Flag and a Copy of the 1916 Proclamation to Niamh Brennan and Óisín Regan from sixth class, Scoil Íosa Carracastle, as part of the ‘Flags for Schools’ initiative for the centenary celebrations.
Following the reading of the Proclamation by the Defence Forces team, and Amy Mc Nicholas  a short talk on the history of the National Flag and care and custody of the Flag was given. As part of the initiative the pupils were also  invited to write a new proclamation to reflect the hopes and aspirations of their generation.
The initiative will culminate with a dedicated Proclamation Day in all schools on March 15th 2016.
